Morning Check-In uses three related settings to decide when a report is sent, what time period is reviewed, and how much motion is required for activity to be included. Each setting does something different, but they work together to shape what shows up in your Morning Check-In Motion Report. Once they’re aligned with your routine, the daily report becomes a quick, reliable way to understand activity without digging through detailed motion history.
Setting these three options thoughtfully helps ensure Morning Check-In reflects the activity you actually want to check each day. The sections below go into more detail on each of these settings and how they work together. |
Report Time
Report Time is the time of day when Morning Check-In runs and sends the Motion Report.
This is the moment the app:
- Finishes reviewing motion data, and
- Sends the report by email
Think of Report Time as the end point of the Morning Check-In process. Motion that happens after this time will not be included in that day’s report.
Motion Detection Window
The Motion Detection Window defines how far back in time Morning Check-In looks before the Report Time.
This setting controls the total span of time included in the report. It can be adjusted from 15 minutes up to 3 hours.
For example:
- Report Time: 8:00 AM
- Motion Detection Window: 1.5 hours
- Reviewed data time
In this case, the Morning Check-In report includes motion data from 6:30 AM to 8:00 AM.
Minimum Activity
Minimum Activity controls how much motion must be detected for a period of time to count as “motion detected” in the report.
Morning Check-In breaks the Motion Detection Window into rolling 10-minute blocks. The Minimum Activity setting (1-10) represents how many minutes within each 10-minute block must show motion for that block to be marked as active.
For example, if Minimum Activity is set to 5:
- Motion is evaluated minute by minute within each 10-minute block
- Motion only needs to occur for a few seconds within a minute to count for that minute
- Motion must be detected in at least 5 different minutes out of the 10-minute block for that block to be reported as motion detected
Motion does not need to be constant. Brief motion within a minute still counts toward the Minimum Activity total for that 10-minute block.
How These Settings Work Together
These three settings work as a system:
- Report Time decides when the report is sent
- Motion Detection Window decides how far back the app reviews
- Minimum Activity decides how much motion is required for activity to appear in the report
If any one of these is out of alignment, the report may still be sent, but the results may not match what you expected. For example:
- A short Motion Detection Window may miss early activity
- A high Minimum Activity setting may exclude brief movement
- A Report Time set earlier or later than intended may shift what motion is included
Example set up:
If:
- Report Time = 8:00 AM
- Motion Detection Window = 30 minutes
- Minimum Activity = 5
Morning Check-In reviews motion from 7:30 AM to 8:00 AM, breaks that time into three 10-minute blocks, and marks each block as active only if motion was detected in at least 5 different minutes of that block.
