Morning Check-In is designed to run quietly in the background and send you a motion report for the selected time. If it doesn’t seem to be working as expected, it’s usually due to one of a few common setup or configuration issues.
Common Reasons Morning Check-In Isn’t Working
- You have a Threshold app before version 1.4.8
- No email address is set in the Residence or Member profile
- The profile’s Role does not include Caretaker or Resident
- The Report Time is set to a different time than you expected the report to be sent
- The Motion Report email is being filtered to spam or junk
- Zone sensitivity is not set appropriately
- Morning Check-In Minimum Activity is set too high
If any one of these conditions isn’t met, Morning Check-In may not appear, may not run, or may not send a Motion Report.
Each of these potential issues is explained in more detail below.
No Email Address Set in the Resident or Member Profile
Morning Check-In sends the Motion Report by email, so a valid email address must be saved in your Threshold app Residence member profile or the Main profile for the app. The default email the report is sent to is your Residence member profile. When a Residence member profile does not have a valid email, the report is sent to your Main profile.
If no email address is available in your Residence member profile or Main profiles, even if Morning Check-In is turned on and scheduled correctly, the report has nowhere to go. Adding or updating an email address allows the app to send the report as expected.
You can navigate to your Residence member profile by tapping on Manage Residences in the Settings tab located in the Locations section > tap on the Residence you want to adjust > tab Member Profile. The Residence member profile is the profile that is directly tied to that specific Residence. Once you have entered a valid email address on the Residence profile member page make sure to tap the Save Changes button on the bottom of the screen.

Outdated Version of the Threshold app
Morning Check-In is only available in newer versions of the Threshold app.
If the Insights section does not appear in the Residence settings the version of the app installed on your device may be outdated. Please make sure your app version is the latest version and if it is not update it in your devices app store. This ensures access to the latest features and settings.
Your Role Does Not Provide Access to Morning Check-In
Morning Check-In is only available to profiles whose Role includes Caretaker or Resident. The Roles that can access and set up Morning Check-In are:
- Caretaker Facilitator
- Family Caretaker
- Professional Caretaker
Resident level profiles will receive the Morning Check-In Report, but they are not able to set up or make changes to the Morning Check-In settings.
The Morning Check-In is shared with Resident profiles in an effort to provide transparence to those living in the Residence space. If a Resident does not with to receive the Morning Check-In Report they can make sure a valid email is not entered under either the Residence member profile settings or the Main profile for the app.
If your Role does not include the word Caretaker, the Morning Check-In settings will not appear in the app and cannot be enabled. A Residence Administrator or Caretaker Facilitator can review and update Roles if changes are needed.
Report Time is Set Incorrectly
Morning Check-In runs and sends the Motion Report at the Report Time you choose.
If the Report Time is set later than expected, the report may arrive at a time you didn’t intend. If it’s set earlier than expected, it may arrive before the motion you wanted included has occurred. Double-checking the Report Time helps ensure the report is sent when you expect it.
The Motion Report Email Is Going to Spam or Junk
If Morning Check-In is set up correctly but the email isn’t appearing in your inbox, it may be filtered into your spam or junk folder by your email provider.
Checking these folders and marking the email as safe can help ensure future Motion Reports arrive in your inbox.
Zone Sensitivity Is Not Set Appropriately
Each Zone can behave differently based on layout, furniture, and how motion typically occurs in that space. Zone sensitivity determines whether motion is detected at all.
- Sensitivity set too low: Motion you expect to be detected may not register, such as subtle movement or motion occurring in a bed.
- Sensitivity set too high: Motion you don’t care about, such as a family pet walking through the room, may be recorded and that would register as motion in the Morning Check-In report.
To adjust Zone Sensitivity please navigate to the Manage Zones section of the Residence you want to adjust: Settings Tab > tap on the Residence you with to review/update > Manage Zones > tap on the Zone you want to update or review and you will see the Sensitivity adjustment bar. If you make any changes please remember to tap the Save button.
Finding the right balance may take some adjustment. If Zone sensitivity isn’t tuned correctly, Morning Check-In may run but report little or no useful motion data.
Morning Check-In Minimum Activity is High
The Minimum Activity setting that controls how motion is summarized in the report.
This setting looks at motion in 10-minute blocks of time. For motion to be included in the report, it must meet the selected minimum activity level. For example, if the Minimum Activity is set to 3, motion must be detected, even briefly, in at least 3 minutes of a 10-minute block. If motion occurs briefly but doesn’t reach that threshold, the report will show no motion for that 10-minute block of time.
In this case, motion may be happening, but it isn’t included in the Morning Check-In summary if the amount of motion is below the minimum activity required to be counted towards motion in the report.
Setting the Minimum Activity to a lower setting will allow movement that may not have met the higher minimum activity setting to be included in the Morning Check-In report. The amount of movement taking place in the Zone will need to match the settings that have been saved in the app in order for the reporting data to accurately illustrate movement.
