Morning Check-In is a feature in the Threshold app that gives you a quick daily motion update for your Residence. When this feature is turned on the app looks back over a set period of time before a specific hour you choose and then sends that summary to you. It functions like a “morning snapshot” of what’s been happening.
You control the time window the report will include and the time the report is sent.
For example, if you set the Morning Check-In to send at 8:00 AM and the time window to 1.5 hours, the report will cover motion detected between 6:30 AM and 8:00 AM. The app gathers that data in blocks of time, indicates whether motion was detected, and then puts it all together into a short summary showing whether activity occurred during that window.
It’s a great way to start the day knowing whether motion was detected around the time you’d normally expect someone to be up and moving.
Where to Find Morning Check-In

How Morning Check-In Works
When Morning Check-In is on:
- The app emails a Motion Report to all caretaker and Resident profiles who have a valid email saved on their Residence or member profile.
- The app performs an analysis at your chosen Report Time.
- The analysis covers motion detected within the period leading up to that time (based on your chosen motion detection window).
- Push Notifications are sent when no motion is detected or when motion status is unknown during the Morning Check-In window
Motion Detection Window
The Motion Detection Window determines how much time is included in the Morning Check-In report. The window can be set between 15 minutes and 3 hours, with the end of the window determined by the selected Report Time.
It is important to choose a window that reflects when movement typically begins during the morning. For example, if motion is usually detected starting around 6:00 AM, the Motion Detection Window should include that time.
To include time both before and after 6:00 AM, a window of 1.5 hours may be useful. When the window is set to 1.5 hours and the Report Time is set to 7:00 AM, the report will cover motion detected between 5:30 AM and 7:00 AM.
Minimum Activity Setting
Morning Check-In divides the selected Motion Detection Window into 10-minute blocks. The Minimum Activity setting (1-10) determines how many of the minutes within each 10-minute block must contain detected motion for that block to be marked as having motion.
Motion does not need to last the full minute to count. If motion is detected at any point during a minute, even for just a few seconds, that entire minute is counted as motion.
For example, if Minimum Activity is set to 5, motion must be detected during at least 5 different minutes within a 10-minute block for that block to be reported as motion. The motion does not need to be continuous, and it does not need to last the entire minute. If motion is detected in fewer minutes than the selected Minimum Activity value, that 10-minute block is reported as having no motion.
Who Can Configure and Receive Morning Check-In?
Morning Check-In can be configured by customers whose role includes Caretaker. This includes Caretaker Facilitator, Family Caretaker, and Professional Caretaker roles. These profiles can access the Morning Check-In settings within a Residence and enable or adjust the feature.
When Morning Check-In is enabled by any Caretaker, the Morning Check-In Report is emailed to all Caretaker and Resident profiles. A valid email address must be saved in their Residence or member profile in order to receive the report.
When a Residence does not have a Circle of Care set up, the profile for that Residence holds both the Residence Administrator and Caretaker Facilitator roles. They can configure Morning Check-In and will receive the report.
Keep in mind that while all Resident profiles will receive a Morning Check-In report (when enabled) Resident profile are not able to configure Morning Check-In.
Push Notifications
Push notifications are short alerts sent to your device as part of Morning Check-In. A notification is sent when no motion is detected or when motion status is unknown during the Morning Check-In window. No notification is sent when motion is detected within that window.
Notifications are managed through your phone’s system settings, not within the Threshold app. To receive them, notifications must be enabled for the app at the device level.
When Morning Check-In is enabled by any Caretaker, notifications are sent to all Caretaker and Resident profiles. These notifications are delivered directly to the customers device and do not require an email address.
